Mother Annie Mae Chatman, affectionately known as “Big Moma," 86, of Natchez, MS, departed this earthly life on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at her residence in Natchez, MS.
Visitation 5:00pm-7:00pm Friday, August 21, 2026, Serenity Farewell Services Viewing continues from 1:00pm to 2:00pm. Saturday, August 22, 2026, 2:00 pm St. Matthew Baptist Church in Garden City, MS. Interment to follow.
Mother Annie was born on February 23, 1940, in Franklin County, Mississippi, to the late Cleveland Thomas and Susianna Pernell Thomas. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Charles Chatman, Sr.; a special companion of 28 years, Junus Reason, Sr.; a son, Charles Chatman Jr.; two daughters, Bonnie Chatman and Gladys Conner; and siblings Anneice Green, Betty J. Coleman, Muriel L. Thomas, Geraldine “Jelena” Diamond, Lauree Hutchins, and James C. Thomas, Sr.
Mother Annie attended Mount Olive High School in Kirby, MS. She was a faithful member of St. Matthew Baptist Church until her health started to decline. She enjoyed attending church services, spending time with her family, decorating, shopping, and spending time with her beloved cat “Pretty Boy."
Mother Annie leaves to cherish her memories, sons David Chatman (Catrina) of Missouri City, Texas, and Timothy Chatman (Alisha and Angela) and Junus Reason Jr. of Louisiana; daughters Sandy Edney, LeKitia Fleming (Donnell), and Shonette Chatman (James); brother Arthur Thomas (Elaine); sister Isephine Morgan (Otis); and aunt Minnie L. Nelson. She also leaves behind a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
